Let's face it. We are all solitary people. At the end of things, you always end up alone. Of course, that doesn't mean that you should give up friendship; there is always a solitary component to every human being where you just want to do your own thing. Reading is one good example of this - have you ever read in a social group? Nah, you enjoy the book at your own setting
Currently reading - Wag The Dog by Larry Beinhart
Currently listening to - Imogen Heap, Speak For Yourself
Secretly listening to - Hannah Montana, Best of Both Worlds
So today was pretty hectic. I rolled out of bed at 7 am to shower and change, then headed to work. Work was okay, no one really had anything planned for me, but I ended up doing more shop drawings. I can't complain though; I really enjoy the environment and the way the company treats its employees. I just wish that I would have more things to do. Then after work, I drove home in painful traffic conditions (WHY do road work during the day time at all?!), scarfed down half a slice of cold pizza, and went to my Theory of Structures class. In that class, we are talking about matrices, which really isn't that bad save the actual number crunching part hah hah.
My friend and I left that class early to go to a career fair for the Structural Engineering Association. I complimented this one guy's tie (it was a tie of the San Andreas Fault), and he turned out the be the president of the organization. I also told a man that his flashing star button was quite fetching, and he turned out to be a Senior Principle at one of the largest structural engineering companies in the nation. I also ran into people from the place I work, and said "Hi!" a little too eagerly while they are amidst a conversation with a potential applicant. Oops. But I was able to save (some) face and afterwards, they were pretty nonplussed about me roaming around at a career fair despite me working for them for less than a month
Finally, my friend and I tore ourselves away from the Structural Engineering bonanza (how bonanza? you ask. swag), and drove back to school to attend a talk by an international architecture firm (Arup). The firm was discussing architecture and building design hand in hand with sustainability. Quite frankly, I think sustainability is an over-used word. Everyone throws out that word in their normal conversation, but I believe that few truly understand the significance of this concept. The discussion dragged on for soooo long, and the only part that I cared about was when one of the panel leaders asked the question "Do we have a moral obligation to be intelligent" and internally I was thinking "ARE YOU SERIOUS," but I didn't say anything. Afterwards, there was free food and free stuff, so I grabbed more swag. Yay swag
I am burnt out. Really
And in other news, Happy Chinese New Year! May you be blessed with prosperity, as well as a long life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
Speaking of freedoms, apparently 08ama is either tied with The Woman, or barely holding on to a lead in delegates in the Democratic party. Did you know that 08bama has publicly admitted to using marijuana when in college? He also used to play basketball in high school, and in a Sports Illustrated column piece, played against the writer, handily beating him. Only goes to reiterate how cool he really is
